About the inspect tool

The inspect tool builds a code for any CS2 skin, with the float, seed, stickers and charm you choose. Type the code in chat on one of our inspect servers and the game hands you the weapon. You do not need to own the skin.

How to inspect a skin you do not own

  1. 1

Build the skin in the generator

Pick the weapon and finish, set the float and the seed, and add up to five stickers and a charm. The gen code updates as you go. If you already have a Steam inspect link, a cs2inspects token or a CSFloat listing, paste it into a converter instead and the code is made for you.

  2. 2

    Copy the code

Press Copy code. It looks like !g G2: followed by a block of letters and numbers. The whole skin is inside that code, so anyone you send it to gets the same result.

  3. 3

    Connect to an inspect server

Open the Servers tab and press Connect on one that is online. CS2 launches and joins the server through Steam. The password is filled in for you.

  4. 4

    Paste the code in chat

Open chat in game (Y by default), paste the code and send it. The weapon appears in your hands with the float, seed, stickers and charm from the code. Press F to inspect it, or walk into the light and turn it.

Inspect and float questions

What is a CS2 inspect link?

An inspect link is the URL Steam attaches to an item so anyone can view it in game. It starts with steam://rungame/730/ and contains the item's identifiers. Paste one into the inspect link converter on this page and you get a gen code for the same skin, float, seed and stickers, which you can then hold on an inspect server without owning it.

Can I inspect a skin without owning it?

Yes. That is what the inspect servers are for. Build the skin in the generator or convert an inspect link, connect to a server and type the code in chat. The server gives you the weapon for that session. Nothing is added to your inventory and nothing is taken from it.

How do I check the float of a skin from an inspect link?

A modern inspect link carries the float, seed and stickers inside it. Paste it into the converter on this page and that data is decoded into a gen code, so you can hold the exact item on a server and see the wear for yourself. Market listings on our skin pages also show the float number where the market reports it.

What is a paint seed or pattern index?

The paint seed is a whole number from 0 to 1000 that decides where the skin's pattern lands on the weapon. Most skins look the same at any seed. On patterned skins like Case Hardened, Fade, Doppler and Marble Fade the seed changes what you see, which is why certain seeds cost more. The generator lets you set the seed, so you can look at a specific pattern before you pay for it.

What do the wear names mean?

CS2 splits the float range into five wear names. Factory New is 0.00 to 0.07, Minimal Wear 0.07 to 0.15, Field-Tested 0.15 to 0.38, Well-Worn 0.38 to 0.45 and Battle-Scarred 0.45 to 1.00. Some skins only exist in part of that range. A low Field-Tested float can look close to Minimal Wear, which is why people check the exact number and not only the name.

Is the inspect server the same as the in-game inspect?

It is the real game. The server runs CS2 with a plugin that reads your code and gives you the weapon, so what you see is what the skin looks like in a match, in first person, with the game's own lighting. The generator's 3D preview on this page is a close approximation and is there so you can build the skin without leaving the site.

Does the code work with stickers and charms?

Yes. Up to five stickers with their own wear, placed on the weapon's sticker slots or dragged anywhere you like in the 3D preview, plus one charm with its pattern. All of it is in the code.

What is the console command for?

Copy console command gives you a csgo_econ_action_preview command for the CS2 console. It opens the skin in the game's own inspect screen without joining a server. Stickers and charms show there too, but you cannot walk around with it, which is what the servers add.
